London-listed Tekcapital (AIM:TEK)  informed investors on Tuesday morning of the newly appointed Lord David Willetts to its Board of Directors.

The intellectual property investment group said it has appointed the former UK minister for Universities and Science with immediate effect.

Willetts was minister for four years between 2010 and 2014, becoming a member of the House of Lords in 2015, and his wider accolades include an honouree fellowship at Nuffield College in Oxford.

A professor at Kings College London, Willetts previously chaired the British Science Association and remains a member of the Council of the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

At present, Willetts is president of the Resolution Foundation, a British independent think-tank aimed at improving the standard of living for low to middle income families.

Willetts has written on economic and social policy throughout his career and has authored two books - ‘The Pinch’, focused on intergenerational equity in 2010, and his recently published, ’A University Education’.

On behalf of Tekcapital, Dr Clifford Gross, Executive Chairman of the group expressed his delight at Willett’s appointment.

“His extensive business and university experience, coupled with his knowledge regarding the commercialisation of scientific discoveries, will further enhance the board's skills and growth prospects for the company,” he said.

Commenting on his own appointment, Lord Willetts addded, "Tekcapital is an exciting company with a global university network. I look forward to helping Tekcapital turn their ideas into the businesses of the future.”
