5. Rationing of energy in Europe cannot be ruled out, the boss of energy giant Shell has warned, due to worries over the supply of gas from Russia.

Speaking at an energy conference, Ben van Beurden said a "really tough winter in Europe" was ahead, with energy prices set to see "significant" rises.

4. Online retail giant Amazon has said it plans to create more than 4,000 jobs in the UK this year.

It said the move, which would include roles in new warehouses in Wakefield and Knowsley, would make it one of the UK's top ten private sector employers bringing the company's total UK staff to 75,000.
