5. Former FTX boss Sam Bankman-Fried will face home detention while awaiting trial in the US on charges that he defrauded customers and investors of the collapsed cryptocurrency exchange.
A US judge said the 30-year-old former billionaire could be released to his parents on a $250m bond.
4. Regulated rail fares in England will rise by up to 5.9% from March, the Department for Transport has announced.
The rise is being capped at a level well below inflation, "to help reduce the impact on passengers", the transport secretary said.
3. British car production rose 5.7% in November from a year earlier, although output levels were still one-quarter lower than pre-pandemic levels, as global chip shortages and supply chain issues continue to hurt, an industry body said.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said 80,091 cars were made in Britain in November, with production growing in six of the past seven months.
2. The UK economy shrank by more than first thought in the three months to September, revised figures show.
The economy contracted by 0.3%, compared with a previous estimate of 0.2%, as business investment performed worse than first thought, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.
