5. The boss of Boeing has warned that there is a "risk" the plane maker may be forced to axe its 737 Max 10 jet over potential regulatory issues.

The company faces a deadline at the end of this year to secure approval for the passenger jet from US authorities.

4. National Grid has laid out plans for a £54bn upgrade to the UK’s electricity network, the biggest investment since the 1960s in real terms, to facilitate a rapid expansion in offshore wind energy.

The government wants 50 gigawatts of offshore wind operational by 2030, up from 10GW currently, and the new network would provide capacity for an additional 23GW which when at full output would meet almost two-thirds of current peak electricity demand.

3. More people - mostly women - have been underpaid their state pension than previously thought, latest government figures show.

A new estimate suggests 237,000 state pensioners were paid less than their entitlement, with a total of nearly £1.5bn underpaid.

2. British employers slowed their hiring via recruitment agencies once again in June as vacancies increased at the weakest rate in more than a year, adding to signs that the labour market is losing some of its inflationary heat.

In a report that the Bank of England will study as it weighs up its next interest rate decision, a measure of permanent staff hiring fell sharply to 54.8 from 59.2 in May.
