5. Tesla has cut the price of some of its most popular electric cars by thousands of pounds in Europe and the US, in a bid to boost customer demand.

The price cuts are in the range of 10% to 13% in the UK meaning new buyers will save £5,500 on an entry-level Model 3 and £7,000 on the cheapest Model Y.

3. People are spending more on holidays despite finances being squeezed by the cost of living, travel agents say.

Several holiday companies and tour operators said demand was high with bookings surging in early January. Since the beginning of the year, sales across its network of 700 travel agents were up by 75% on the same period in 2022.

2. Asking prices for British homes rose for the first time in two months as the housing market showed signs of calming after the turmoil triggered by former prime minister Liz Truss's "mini-budget", property website Rightmove  said.

Asking prices for residential properties increased by 0.9%, or £3,301 ($4,032.50) from December 4th to January 7th from a month earlier, after a 2.1% fall over the previous month.
