4. Uber has said it may soon have to start charging its UK customers VAT at 20%, after a High Court judgement, pushing up the cost of rides.
It comes after a judge ruled that UK private hire taxi operators must make contracts with their customers.
3. Tesco is facing potential disruption ahead of the key Christmas period at more than half of its 22 UK distribution centres, unless an agreement is reached with its staff.
The union Usdaw said 5,000 of its members had rejected a proposed 4% annual pay rise and will join Unite union members in taking industrial action at a total of 14 of the supermarket chain's distribution centres.
2. Today all international arrivals to the UK will need to take a pre-departure Covid-19 test to tackle the new Omicron variant to the dismay of the travel industry.
The change came into force from 04:00 GMT, with travellers over the age of 12 having to submit evidence of a negative lateral flow or PCR test that has been taken a maximum of 48 hours before the departure to the UK.
1. British consumer spending picked up in November, boosted by earlier-than-usual Christmas shopping and a recovery in spending at pubs and restaurants before news of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
The British Retail Consortium said total sales in November were 5.0% higher than a year earlier, the biggest annual increase since July and up from an increase of 1.3% in October.
