4. Manufacturing giant 3M has said it will stop making and using so-called "forever chemicals", common materials that have been linked to a range of health problems including cancer.

The firm, which also makes Post-Its, cited increased regulatory and consumer concern about the substances, known as PFAS, to explain the move.

3. Figures prepared by the data and intelligence platform Dealroom for the Digital Economy Council suggest that fast-growing UK tech companies raised £24bn this year - more than their counterparts in France and Germany combined.

2. Purplebricks Group  Britain's biggest online-only real estate agency, will cut more than 10% of its workforce as part of a cost-cutting program, The Times reported on Wednesday.

The company will lay off more than 100 of its staff of about 800 as part of the program, which is set to conclude on Friday, the newspaper said.

1. Train drivers across 15 rail companies will stage a fresh strike on 5 January in a long-running row over pay, the Aslef union has said.

It will add to major rail disruption in the first week of January, with the RMT union already planning strikes on 3-4 and 6-7 January.
