5. Subpostmasters who helped uncover the Post Office IT scandal but missed out on full compensation are to get payouts under a new government scheme.

The 555 workers won a landmark civil case against the Post Office in 2019, but saw most of their settlements swallowed up by legal fees will now get the same level of compensation as other subpostmasters who were wrongly convicted.

4. Fuel prices have stabilised for the first time this month after Russia's invasion of Ukraine caused a surge.

Average fuel prices slipped from record highs on Monday, with petrol at nearly £1.67 a litre and diesel at £1.79.

1. Rishi Sunak will aim to show today that he is helping Britons through the worst cost-of-living squeeze in decades while keeping his powder dry for bigger tax cuts before the next election.

Sunak is due to give a budget update in parliament at around 1230 GMT and he will add to the support he gave households only last month, since when energy prices have been propelled even higher by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
