5. Native American tribes have agreed a landmark settlement with major drug companies over the devastation caused by opioid addiction.
The tentative deal - with Johnson & Johnson and three major drug distributers - is worth $590m (£436m).
4. Meta's experiment with cryptocurrency, Diem, is shutting down.
The Diem Association, which runs the project, announced the sale of assets of the cryptocurrency venture to Slivergate Capital Corporation for $182million.
3. Amazon has announced 1,500 new apprenticeships across the UK.
The 40 schemes range from engineering to health and safety and includes more than 200 apprenticeships which are degree level and comes after the BT Group recently announced plans to recruit more than 600 apprentices and graduates for September 2022.
2. Google’s parent company, Alphabet, ended 2021 on another high note, reporting better than expected results in a year when it nearly doubled profits despite growing regulatory scrutiny of its business.
The company reported revenues of $75.3bn for the three months ending 31st December, up 32% compared to last year, and a profit of $20.6bn.
1. Shoppers have been hit by the highest price rises in nearly 10 years after shop inflation almost doubled over the past month, data suggests.
Shop price inflation jumped from 0.8% in December to 1.5% in January.
