Bluebird Merchant Ventures (BMV) , an Asia focused resource development group, has undertaken additional metallurgical work to confirm the gold production process at their Kochang mine in South Korea.
Results from the samples have so far indicated the ore is “not problematic and does not require complicated or expensive extraction techniques.” The news is welcomed by the company who can now consider lower cost options for the design and construction of the process plant.
The company expects to know the most appropriate process for recovering gold from the Kochang ore by the end of April.
Preparations are also underway at Kochang for the underground drilling programme. Next month, the mine’s entrance will be refurbished so the company can swiftly and safely begin that project, aiming to identify the “structure and the continuation of the three veins” present under the Kochang mine floor.
The Kochang mine aligns with Bluebird’s overall business model of “bringing old mines back to life.” Previously operated from 1928 to 1975, the mine has since seen total mineral potential estimates reach between 550,000 and 700,000 tonnes, with a range of grades between 5.2 g/t to 6.6 g/t Au, and 27.3 g/t to 34.8 g/t Ag.
Additionally, the company also informed investors today that they are awaiting feedback for their assisted drilling programme application from the South Korean government owned Korea Resources Corporation (KORES).
The Kochang Joint Venture Company was invited to apply for the grant, which has led the company to be optimistic for the application’s outcome.
Lastly, the company provided an update on their leading asset, the Gubong mine, also located in South Korea. The Gubong mine is believed to have been the second largest gold mine in South Korea when it shut down in 1976.
The company is also waiting for a response for their application here, a "permit to develop" which will allow the reopening of the Gubong Mine News is expected within the next couple of weeks.
Tune in as we discuss these assets with Bluebird's Director, Aidan Bishop, and get exclusive updates straight from the source.
