Chariot Limited (CHAR) , an Africa-focused transitional energy group, has announced that its subsidiary, Chariot Green Hydrogen Limited, has signed a further partnership agreement with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and Oort Energy Limited.
The collaboration was previously announced in November 2022, and will test the production of green hydrogen in Morocco. Testing entails focusing on the construction, commissioning and operating of an electrolyser pilot project as well as further development of skills and training within the sector.
The pilot 'proof of concept' project will utilise a 1MW polymer electrolyte membrane electrolyser system patented by Oort. This project will be hosted at UM6P's Research and Development facility in OCP Jorf Lasfar, Morocco, the largest fertilizer complex in the world.
Laurent Coche, CEO of Chariot Green Hydrogen said, "This partnership pools key resources as we are looking to develop our knowledge and expertise in this sector for the benefit of all involved. This endeavour is another step forward in Chariot becoming a green hydrogen producer and will be of real value to our project developments in Morocco and Mauritania as we confirm electrolyser performances."

Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources through a process called electrolysis and stands out as a clear environmental winner over ‘grey’ hydrogen, or hydrogen that uses fossil fuels as its energy source.
As net zero targets grow closer, the global race for clean hydrogen leadership is intensifying, with over 30 countries now actively involved in developing hydrogen strategies, compared to just one in 2017. Among these countries, Morocco stands out as one of the top producers of green hydrogen, due to its production capacities, international partnerships and geographical position.
With this in mind, Morocco's leading position for green hydrogen production suggests a high level of expertise in this field, boding well for the success of this pilot project, which has already been demonstrated through the extension of the collaboration.
Other green hydrogen projects from Chariot’s subsidary include its partnership with Total Eren and the Government of Mauritania on the potential development of a 10GW green hydrogen project, named Project Nour.
