Intelligent Ultrasound (MED) , the AIM-listed ultrasound software and simulation company, announced on Monday that the firm’s ultrasound database, used in the development of its AI products, had exceeded a total of four million ultrasound images.

The news marks a significant “continued growth” for the company’s image database which makes up a critical component of the firm’s strategy.

Commenting, Nicholas Sleep, CTO at Intelligent Ultrasound said: "The continued growth of our image database is a key component of our AI development strategy and we are delighted to now have over four million images in the library.”

The database is an integral part of developing the group’s AI-based software solutions which addresses the speed and quality of ultrasound scanning.

The firm’s AI-based software aims to boost scanning quality and to improve the speed of medical ultrasound scanning in areas such as anaesthesiology, obstetrics, gynaecology, radiology and primary care medicine.

Mr Sleep highlighted the value of developing the firm’s AI products by acknowledging its greater implications on the ultrasound market, he commented:

“Automated image analysis has the potential to have a huge impact on the medical imaging market and our expanding image database will enable us to continue to develop new AI software products that we believe will be attractive to the major equipment manufacturers in the global ultrasound market."

Earlier in July, the AIM-listed group announced that it had inked its first long term licence and co-development agreement for its AI software with a world leading ultrasound equipment manufacturer.

As a result, the company announced that the deal would integrate its analysis software onto a range of specialty specific ultrasound systems within the global healthcare market.
