Microsaic Systems (AIM:MSYS), the developer of mass spectrometry instruments, has signed a global collaboration and commercialisation agreement with liquid chromatography provider, Axcend Corp.
The agreement will see the integration of the Microsaic 4500 MiD®, a compact MS detector, with the portable Axcend Focus LC®, a small footprint liquid chromatography system, to form the ‘LC/MS system.’
The companies will work together to commercialise the combined product globally using both groups’ direct sales and selected distribution channels.
Microsaic has a direct sales presence in the UK and across certain European markets whilst Axcend has a direct presence in North America.
"We are particularly excited by this partnership, which combines two highly differentiated compact products into a very powerful LC/MS system,” said Glenn Tracey, Chief Executive of Microsaic.
Shares in Microsaic Systems were trading 5.56% higher at 0.95p during Wednesday trading.
"Many scientists need the added benefit of an LC/MS system to produce greater analytical insights,” added Glen Mella, Chief Executive of Axcend.
Liquid chromatography, which is a method of sample separation, commonly uses MS as a detection method in a wide range of markets such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and environmental analysis.
According to Top Down Analytics, the analytical HPLC-MS market is valued at $ billion today.
The companies’ combined technology supports timely testing and utilises substantially less solvents than the traditional LC and MS systems, resulting in lower running costs and solvent disposal.
“As far as we are aware there is no other LC/MS combination today which provides such a powerful offering in such a small footprint,” added Tracey.
