Mindflair (MFAI)  said Sure Valley Ventures' second fund (SVV2), one of its portfolio investments, has led a £1.7 million pre-seed investment in clinical AI dental diagnostics business BeCertain.

The funding round, which is also supported by Innovate UK's Investor Partnership Growth Catalyst programme, will be used to accelerate product development and commercialisation of BeCertain's AI-powered software for dental diagnostics.

BeCertain is developing an AI assistant that helps dentists interpret 2D intraoral X-rays with the aim of improving diagnostic consistency and efficiency while ensuring clinicians remain responsible for final decisions. The platform uses uncertainty-aware AI to identify common dental conditions, including tooth decay, bone loss, infections and restoration defects, while providing confidence scores to assist clinicians in more complex cases.

The technology was developed from research led by Dr Yunpeng Li at King's College London alongside Professor Owen Addison, with its early development supported by a £1.75 million National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) i4i Product Development Award. Around 20 million dental X-rays are carried out in the UK each year, highlighting the potential scale of the market.

"BeCertain is applying specialist AI to a clear clinical need, combining machine learning and dental expertise to support more consistent diagnosis while retaining clinician oversight," said Mindflair Director Nicholas Lee.

"The funding will support the next stage of product development and commercialisation."

This latest investment further strengthens Mindflair's exposure to high-potential AI healthcare businesses through Sure Valley Ventures. BeCertain is targeting a sizeable clinical market with technology designed to improve diagnostic accuracy without replacing clinicians, and the fresh funding should help accelerate its path towards commercial adoption.
