7digital (7DIG)  has launched itself into the “connected car” sector.

The B2B end-to-end digital music solutions company announced today that it has signed a deal with ACCESS CO., a global provider of software solutions for 1.5 billion devices worldwide.

A partnership with ACCESS grants 7digital the ability to plug into to their connected entertainment services, both in and out of home, which include car radios. 7digital called the move “strategically important” as the integration and development of music and radio services in cars continues to be a rapidly expanding market.

Per the terms of the agreement, 7digital will pre-integrate its IP radio services and APIs into ACCESS’ newly launched ACCESS Twine™ for Car, a multimedia content service platform for automotive manufacturers.

The technology grants drivers and users increased in-car connectivity, providing a wider range of audio services and integrating internet radio to a larger existing broadcast system.

Moving forward, the platform is expected to deliver additional functionalities, such as on-demand podcasts, along with new business models such as targeted advertising.

Simon Cole, CEO of 7digital, argued expanding into “the connected car opens up a new world of in-car entertainment and represents a clear opportunity for radio to take advantage of its central position on the dashboard.

We saw an enormous level of activity in this sector at CES this year and are thrilled to be able to announce this first partnership with ACCESS, who are pioneers in the connected car environment.”
