Georgina Energy (GEX)  is moving ahead with a new fully funded seismic programme at its Hussar Prospect in Western Australia, aimed at refining helium and hydrogen targets.

The company has designed a ~350 kilometre seismic survey over Hussar following a review of vintage seismic data by Curtin University’s Distinguished Emeritus Professor Dr Brian Evans. The review identified interpreted Direct Helium and Hydrogen Indicators (DHHIs), including bright spots, phase reversals and gas chimneys.

The programme, which is subject to regulatory and Traditional Owner cultural heritage approvals, will be fully funded by Harlequin Energy Limited. Georgina said the additional seismic should help more accurately delineate the interpreted DHHIs and provide greater clarity over the salt sealing layer above the main Townsend Formation and fractured basement targets.

The decision follows delays in moving the Ensign Rig 970 to site due to adverse weather and road closures affecting heavy vehicles. The seismic programme had originally been planned for after drilling.

Georgina plans to use lightweight, non-invasive seismic technology that does not require clearing or grading of seismic lines. The equipment will use vibration sources mounted on lightweight rubber-tyred or crawler tractors alongside newer generation wireless nodal systems.

Fieldwork is expected to take about 30 days, subject to approvals from the Western Australian Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration and Traditional Owners, which the company expects shortly.

The programme is also being designed to support potential field development and the drilling of multiple production wells should Hussar deliver a commercial discovery.

The Hussar EP513 re-entry is targeting subsalt formations including the Townsend Formation and fractured Neoproterozoic basement, with drilling planned to a total depth of ~3,200 metres, potentially extending further depending on gas occurrences and reservoir quality.

Georgina Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Anthony Hamilton said: “This seismic programme was originally planned as a post drill program but due to weather and road closures will provide multiple benefits in not only amplifying Direct Helium and Hydrogen seismic indicators but also in potential full field development of this exciting prospect and we look forward to making further announcements in due course”.

Bringing forward the seismic programme allows Georgina to make productive use of the rig mobilisation delay while potentially improving its understanding of the Hussar structure ahead of drilling. With the programme fully funded by Harlequin Energy, the additional data could help sharpen drill targeting and provide useful information for future field development if Hussar proves commercially successful.
