Harland & Wolff (HARL,)the maritime engineering specialist, has noted the recent judgement passed down on 31 March in relation to an interlocutory application connected to the Islandmagee Gas Storage Project judicial review.
The judicial review of Harland & Wolff’s marine licence, abstraction licence and discharge consent is ongoing and formal hearings are due to commence from 2 to 5 May 2023.
Harland & Wolff said the applicant for judicial review, No Gas Caverns Limited and Friends of the Earth Limited, recently made the application in an attempt to strike out certain evidence provided by the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), as well as to seek disclosure of certain information held by DAERA.
This application was heard by the court on 23 March 2023, and the court dismissed the application in its judgment which was passed down on 31 March 2023. The full hearing of the application for the judicial review will be heard on the scheduled dates.
Harland & Wolff said they remain optimistic of a positive outcome upon completion of the judicial review.

Harland & Wolff has been subject to the court extending the hearing date twice over the previous half-year. But with the date now set for 2nd-5th May 2023, the company remains confident that they will soon see a successful outcome.
Harland & Wolff also notes that there has never been a better time for the Islandmagee Gas Storage Project to be developed, as the UK continues to struggle to maintain adequate gas supplies in the face of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine continued threat to resources.
The Islandmagee Gas Storage Project, which is expected to provide 25% of the UK's natural gas storage capacity when completed and to benefit the Northern Irish economy as a whole, demonstrating the immense benefits that will come about once the project commences.
