Thanks again guys. Been investing for two years and all questions I had posed to those in the know were answered by 'dyor'. Great advice but meaningless unless you know how. Then I stumbled into the cashmere podcast and daily watch you go through how to do research. You need to cotton on to how useful this is and put together a lexicon pod. If this pod was a chart, even John would be ramping

Warm weather in September hits autumn coat sales

Retail sales fell more than expected in September as shoppers held back buying autumn clothing amid unseasonably warm weather, official figures show.

Consumers also struggled with cost of living pressures, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

Around the world, September was the warmest on record due to ongoing global warming, and the El Niño weather event.

Sales volumes fell 0.9% in the month, the ONS said, while economists had predicted a 0.2% fall.

Banks call for clarity on Britain's investment path to net-zero economy

Britain needs to better track funds going into green investments to assess how much is needed from the private sector and should consider targeted tax changes to encourage sustainable projects, banking industry body UK Finance said.

In its first major position paper on the topic, UK Finance also told the country's political parties that more clarity is needed on the path to a net zero economy to help financial markets muster the huge amounts of capital needed.

China curbs graphite exports in latest critical minerals squeeze

China announced on Friday that it will require export permits for certain graphite products to protect national security, its latest move to curb shipments of minerals that are critical to the energy transition.

Graphite, a soft form of carbon, is a key component of batteries for electric vehicles and China is the world's top producer, accounting for two-thirds of global supply, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Elon Musk says X to have two new premium tiers

Elon Musk has said his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, will launch two new tiers of premium subscriptions.

"One is lower cost with all features, but no reduction in ads, and the other is more expensive, but has no ads," the billionaire said in a post on X.

It comes as the firm started charging new users $1 in New Zealand and the Philippines for accessing the platform.

Mr Musk did not provide more details on the plans.
