London-listed Seeing Machines (AIM:SEE)  are joining US telecoms firm, Qualcomm, to develop driver monitoring systems (DMS) for the global automotive industry.

The two companies are working together on an optimised DMS solution for a global premium automaker, this morning’s statement explained.

This will focus on in-vehicle infotainment systems which combine entertainment and information delivery to drivers and passengers to control functions such as navigation or music.

Specifically, infotainment is an area emerging as ‘a critical integration point’, noted Seeing Machines, and global automakers continue to look towards DMS systems for improved driver safety.

Shares in Seeing Machines were trading 2.40p higher at 5.325p on Thursday morning.

The Australian technology firm said it will be working to develop its technology for the architecture of Qualcomm’s ‘Snapdragon Autonomous Platform’ which was unveiled this week at CES 2020.

The Snapdragon platform leverages a domain based architecture allowing automakers to aggregate multiple vehicular domains into one centralised platform.

Using the platform, Seeing Machines said its technology would be scalable across different cockpit systems, allowing it to be used more broadly across the industry.

Nick DiFiore, Senior Vice President of Automotive at Seeing Machines said it was important for the company to execute “robust solutions” for OEM customers as DMS technology continues to surge globally.

“We believe an effective in-cabin and driver monitoring solution is paramount to predictive safety systems,” added Anshuman Saxena, Senior Director of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies.
