SimiGon (SIM) , a global provider of training software platform, SIMbox, announced on Thursday that it had won a further contract with the United States Air Force to supply mixed reality devices for their pilot training.
The SIMbox-based device to be supplied will use mixed reality, the blending of both virtual and physical worlds, to enhance undergraduate pilot training (“UPT”) at the USAF’s Laughlin Air Force Base.
SimiGon’s President & Chief Executive, Ami Vizer, commented: "We are excited to support the USAF UPT training needs with our advanced technologies integrated with mixed reality to provide a truly accelerated learning environment.”
Mixed reality will enable trainee pilots to physically interact with the simulated cockpit whilst they are immersed in a virtual environment.
The SIMbox device will allow pilots to train both indivdually and collectively in formation and tactical scenarios, whilst instructors will be able to to track their progress using data analytics accumulated by the technology.
Shares were up over 9% following this morning's news.
Mr Vizer acknowledged the implications of the company’s partnership with the USAF, commenting:
“The USAF's increased use of the Company's technology and MR solutions for its training pipeline demonstrates the many advantages of SIMbox as a scalable, comprehensive training system.”
He added further, “We expect this contract, where we have implemented a subscription-based pricing model, to lead to additional MR training opportunities in the USAF as well as more business in the wider civilian arena."
The expected revenue from the contract has already been factored into management's expectations for the end of this year, the company explained.
This morning’s contract not only reflects SimiGon’s standing as a valuable provider of VR and MR technologies to the USAF programme, but signifies the company’s wider efforts to tackle the market opportunity posed by the sector.
