Tlou Energy Limited , an aspiring gas-to-power supplier in Botswana and southern Africa through the use of coal bed methane (CBM), has released operational reports on its two largest CBM projects in Botswana: Lesedi and Mamba.
The Lesedi CBM project, as Botswana’s most advanced gas project, has been of great interest to investors as it proposes a domestic alternative to the expensive and sometimes unreliable energy imports Botswana typically relies on.
Covering around 3,800km2, the Lesedi project consists of four Coal and CBM Prospecting Licences (PL), two of which await renewal in November of this year, and a Mining Licence which the company has singled out as its current main interest in the area. The Mamba Project, comprised of five Coal and CBM PL’s on approximately 4,500km2, remains highly prospective and, as it is contiguous with the Lesedi area, grants Tlou a great deal of flexibility.
Earlier this month, Tlou submitted a re-tender for the development of CBM fuelled pilot power plants at the request of Botswana’s Ministry of Mineral Resources Green Technology and Energy Security.
The proposal is centered on developing CBM fuelled power plants up to 100MW and, if successful, would carve out a new market for both the nation’s CBM gas industry as well as Tlou’s gas reserves.
