Harland & Wolff Group Holdings (HARL ) said its fully owned subsidiary, Harland & Wolff (Arnish) Limited, is on track to complete its first contract win by the end of the month.
Arnish won its first contract in November 2021 for the fabrication of four suction piles for an offshore energy project. Today, Harland & Wolff told investors that the first two suction piles have now been completed and Arnish is on track to complete the contract by the end of April.
The Board believes that this first contract has validated its strategy of getting the Arnish facility into a state of operational preparedness for the wider renewables sector in the UK.
Arnish moved to full operations, fabricating four suction piles - two at seven and a half metres diameter and twenty metres length, and two at six metres diameter and twelve metres length.
The contract, which marked Arnish’s first external contract in addition to work that was being undertaken for the Methil facility, has been completed on time, on specification and on budget.
In October 2021, the company also acknowledged that infrastructure developments across numerous sectors were starting to move ahead to either construction or commercialisation stages. As a result, it believes that Arnish, with its specialist large diameter rolling equipment, is “well placed” to be a beneficiary as its capability is expected to be in “high demand,” it said.
Today, Harland reported that Arnish has won a fabrication contract to roll twelve Super Duplex Shells for the Hinkley C nuclear power project. The first of the twelve structures will be rolled out from tomorrow with the project scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2022.
Harland said Arnish has also been busy with the fabrication of boat landings for the Saipem contract. The first of eight boat landings is expected to be despatched to Methil next week for painting works with the second boat landing going out two weeks thereafter. The cumulative contract value for these projects is estimated to be in the region of £2 million - £3 million.
Harland & Wolff, group CEO John Wood, commented: “I am delighted to see that Arnish is very busy with a number of projects being run in parallel. The team has done an excellent job to get the first contract delivered on time and on budget. This performance has provided immense credibility to the yard in its negotiations with a number of new clients.”
